  4. My deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Shane Yates. Shane was much more than a race caller to me. Shane was a gentleman, a friend, a mentor and an absolute inspiration! My life, like so many others is much richer for knowing Shane Yates. Shane’s humour, sense of humanity and his very essence transcended Australian racing.

  16. Shane was an inspiration to me, and someone I always looked up to. He was the broadcaster that I aspired to be. He trusted my skill, and believed in me. He is responsible for my first Football commentary stint on radio. It was early 80s, it was on 7AD, and half time at the Devonport Oval: Devonport v North Launceston. He crossed back to the studio, took his headphones off, and much to the shock of our Expert that day Leon Wootton, said Mick, its all yours, call the third quarter, and I will listen on the radio from the other side of the ground. There started something special for me that has taken me on a broadcasting journey In many areas that I continue to love.

Rest in Peace Shane, you were an ideas man, Family Man and a Gun Broadcaster.
